We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.

Potato Stamps

Potato Stamps

First, in case you didn't know, I'm on SNAPCHAT! And it's my favorite. Username is blwideas. I share activities almost daily, along with food stuff, family stuff, and random stuff. Either way, it's fun and you should check it out!

Second, this activity was quickly put together and was not perfect. But I really like how easy it was to put together and also how versatile it is. Now, it IS a waste of a perfectly good potato. For someone who loves eating potatoes, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

That said, if you need an afternoon activity idea, and you don't have any stamps, this will do in a pinch. I used a stamp pad, but if you don't have a stamp pad, use some paint or some food dye mixed with a little water.

To make the potato stamp, I cut one potato into 4 segments. Then I used the tip of my knife to create a shape (I did a heart, star, square, and triangle). Once I dug the tip of the knife into the potato just about 1/8 of an inch, I then carefully cut in from the sides until the knife met up with the downward cuts (the outline of the shape). Not sure if that made any sense!

Anyway, I don't know how long this will last, but as I said, it'll do in a pinch!

One of my followers on Instagram suggested wrapping rubber bands around an eraser; a rock or some other solid object should work the same. Then you can stamp random line designs onto paper. I will try that and share it some time in the future!
